The human epidemic is worry. We worry about the smallest of details to the biggest situations. What color should I paint my walls to whether or not purchasing this house is a good idea. Life is filled with decisions that we must make on a daily basis. These daily decisions can keep us in a state of stress because we worry about the outcome of each decision and whether it is the correct one. If we stress over all the decisions we make in one day, we activate the stress response in our body which produces stress chemicals known as cortisol. Cortisol in small and acute doses is not detrimental to our well-being. However, if we find ourselves stressing over the smallest of scenarios to the greatest, we never get a break from the havoc that stress creates on our body. This wear and tear of stress hormones being continuously released is devastating to our health.
Instead, try to release the worry. Attempt another approach that is empowering and motivating. This is what we call eustress: or good stress. Try to perceive what you are experiencing as a challenge rather than an obstacle. Each challenging situation is an opportunity for personal growth. Allow this challenge to strengthen your character and produce a silver lining. The lesson of the challenge could be an avenue to develop patience, kindness, forgiveness, wisdom. The lessons are infinite and invaluable.
To achieve more objectivity , detach yourself from the struggle. Try to eliminate judgement of how horrible the situation is. Alternatively, cultivate confidence in yourself, and realize that you can change your attitude even if you cannot change the circumstances. Your perception is the key ingredient in dealing with life’s predicaments. When you approach a situation from a loving and strength-based approach, you no longer perceive yourself as a victim; rather you see yourself as a powerful force that can create change and adapt to any situation.
Look closely at your troubles. Do not allow them to cause you to give up. Embrace your challenges as your teachers. Each challenge presents moments of growth. Befriend your struggles and learn from them. When you do, you will notice that they lose their power over you. Allow them to teach you what you want to know and move on. Have faith and trust and work on releasing any related anxiety and fear.
You are a thriver. You will get through all of life’s challenges. Stay optimistic. You will muster strength you did not know you had and grace to deal with what ever situation comes your way. Soon enough, you will be on the other side. In the near future, you will reflect back on this time in your life and draw strength from the knowledge that even though the road was rocky, you persevered and carried on. Each obstacle is put in your path as a life lesson. If you keep encountering the same obstacle, that is the universe’s indication that there is a valuable lesson that has been untapped. Open your heart and mind to the truths, knowledge and wisdom life has to offer.
