Sadly, individuals may mis-perceive acceptance as a weakness and dis-empowerment. This is far from the truth. Acceptance is allowing oneself to come to terms with circumstances outside of one’s control which frees up precious energy for moving forward in areas that are within our control. Acceptance alleviates anxiety and depression.
Acceptance demonstrates a great sense of awareness. It allows us to be present as we move through time and space. We often have a great investment in a certain outcome. This vision may blur our ability to see what is. This precludes us from effectively dealing with our circumstances because of our expectations of what it should be. The fascinating paradox of acceptance is that when we accept our situation as it is, we can implement change.
Most difficult and important is self-acceptance. We are the product of a combination of elements that include our environment, genes, choices and decisions that we have made during our lifetime. Therefore, it is vital to realize that we have done the best with what we have and are imperfect. Accept that realization and move forward with your life. Once we attain that understanding we can make positive changes because that is when we connect with what needs changing.
Acceptance is the healthy recognition of our situation as it is. This allows us to move on with our lives and improve the situation and ourselves. With acceptance, we are able to work with our circumstances with an intent to make our lives and our experiences more authentic, positive and fulfilling.
