Whilst this may be a special time of year for many, it can also be very stressful, emotional, hectic and frustrating time period for individuals and families. Some individuals and families are wrought with worries surrounding finances, having to deal with difficult family members and all the extra planning and responsibilities that are related to the holidays. Below are a few tips that are helpful in managing the holidays and enjoying the festivities and joy that comes along with the holidays.
Mindfulness
Mindfulness is defined as being aware and accepting of the present moment without judgment. There is a difference with planning ahead and worrying about holiday plans. Most of us are either stuck in past events or we get caught up in the worrying of what will happen in the future which does not impact the outcome.
Most of what we worry about never happens! So, try instead to create your plans or goals, visualize the positive outcome (see yourself getting things done in an effective way with adequate time to plan) and then release your worries. Trust yourself and life that events will unfold in the manner they were meant to. Releasing worries allows one to enjoy the moment and the peace and joy that comes from being optimistic and grateful.
Eat, Exercise, Sleep & Breathe
Eat as healthy as you can and give yourself permission to indulge. Try adhering to your exercise schedule as much as you can and be flexible and resume your exercise routine if you find yourself out of sync with your exercise routine. Try to get plenty of rest to allow your body and mind to rejuvenate. Attaining enough sleep is vital to your health and your mood. Take deep breaths and try to go with the flow even if situations do not occur the way you imagined.
