The habits we engage in impact the quality of our lives. Highly successful people are unconsciously and competently engaging in small habits that lead to big results. Several powerful small habits will be shared to inspire you to improve your self-worth and personal power.
1. Power Habit: Take 100% responsibility for your life.
The first step to making important life change is to take responsibility for yourself. Look at that word responsibility—it is comprised of the two words response and ability, meaning “the ability to respond.” Responding is different from reacting. Reacting is having a “knee jerk” reaction to situations versus a response is a thoughtful way to engage that comes from awareness rather than a lack of.
When you take responsibility, you are empowering yourself and making an agreement with yourself that you are able to respond to what is happening in your life, and not allowing yourself to be a victim.
2. Power Habit: Positive mindset.
Operate from a positive and empowered place in your heart; rather than one that is dictated by anxiety or fear. Many people engage in specific behaviors because they are trying to prevent some negative outcome. That is not helpful as you are always engaging in what psychologists call “avoidance learning” in which an organism tries to prevent a negative event from occurring. The problem with this approach is that we are in a mind-frame where we are constantly dodging bullets rather than having a positive perspective. Instead adopt a positive and optimistic perspective and look for opportunities for growth rather than failure. The manner in which we focus our thoughts creates how we feel. Start recognizing the positive and release preventing the negative. Think about the opportunity to succeed rather than fail.
3. Power Habit: Keep a Daily Gratitude Journal.
Every night before bed, write down 3 aspects of your life you are grateful for. Practicing gratitude is powerful and life changing. When you focus your thoughts and emotions on what is going well, no matter how small those areas are: health, the weather, a friend, a job; you retrain your mind to think about the positive and possibilities. If we focus on what is lacking or negative our emotions will follow. Look for the silver lining in difficult situations. Retraining your mind in a positive lens is life changing and provides a joyful existence. Your mind is your greatest asset. Learn to empower your thoughts and mind and your life will follow.
