Humans naturally seek happiness and avoid suffering. They inaccurately assume that once they achieve certain goals such as their dream career, home, partner or car, they will be happy. This incorrect idea creates frustration as we then get stuck in chasing happiness and losing the opportunity to practice joy in the moment. The truth is, happiness is a choice that is available to us in every moment if we choose to cultivate it by appreciating the present and having gratitude. Our mind has the ability to focus on what we want it to. If we focus on what is not (scarcity) rather than abundance we feel bad.
Life will always be filled with challenges. If we can accept and surrender to this idea, we can become more proficient at practicing happiness. Happiness is a choice. It is difficult to perceive it that way. This is illustrated by the variety of people and circumstances in which people are able to be happy. When we enjoy our blessings and give thanksgiving, we free ourselves from believing that certain tasks must be accomplished before we can be happy. Remove the inaccurate belief that certain tasks must be accomplished and enjoy what is and you will notice that your mood and outlook on life will change.
Happiness is not a destination, it is conscious way of operating in time and space. So, cherish every moment that you have. And treasure it more because you shared it with someone special, special enough to spend your time … and remember that time waits for no one…So stop waiting until you find your soul mate, until you lose ten pounds, until you gain ten pounds, until you have more money. Enjoy the present moment as it is a gift. When we make an intention to find the beauty in life, we experience happiness.
