Individuals often confuse letting go as forgetting, not thinking about or ignoring. Letting go rids us of feelings of anger, resentment, jealousy or regret. Letting go is not about winning, losing or defeating. It is not connected to pride and or how you appear to others. It does not involve obsessing or dwelling on the past.
Letting go is not blocking painful memories or not having sad thoughts. It does not leave us feeling empty, alone, scared, hurt or sad. It is not about giving in or giving up or losing hope. Letting go is not about loss nor is it associated with defeat or dis-empowerment.
To let go is to cherish the memories, to overcome and move on. It is about learning from the experience. Allowing the experience to strengthen our character and connection to our personal values and power. It is having an open mind and confidence in the future. It is about freeing us from the burden in the past to become a better person in the future.
Letting go is learning and experiencing and growing. Seeing difficult and challenging situations, people and circumstances as valuable teachers that give us insight into our personal growth and having the courage to pursue that growth. To let go is to be thankful for the experiences that made you laugh, made you cry, and made you grow and into the person you are today.
It is about all that you have, all that you had, and all that you will soon gain. It is practicing gratitude and seeing the wisdom that comes with each experience. Letting go is having the courage to accept change, and the strength to keep moving even when circumstances are difficult. Letting go is a maturation process. It is realizing that the heart can sometimes be the most potent remedy.
To let go is to open a door, and to clear a path and set yourself free.
