One of the most challenging and beneficial practices a person can engage in for one’s wellness is self-forgiveness. It is not essential to be forgiven by anyone else. When you can forgive yourself, you can learn to accept yourself and move toward healing and wellness. When you are able to release judgment of self and others, you will know that you have mastered the art of self-forgiveness. This provides you with freedom from suffering. Suffering can manifest in anxiety, depression or chronic physical conditions. So much of our pain is self-inflicted in how we judge ourselves and in our inability to accept and love ourselves.
Letting go of judgment of another is truly releasing judgment of yourself. One’s need to put others into categories defines us, not them. The less we personalize the behavior of others and understand that their behavior is a reflection of who they are, the greater our sense of peace.
Learn to say to yourself, “I accept and love myself.” Instead of judging yourself and perceiving yourself as a failure remind yourself that you do not fail in life, you only produce results, and you have the human right to learn and grow from any results that you produce. When you judge yourself, you push away self-acceptance. Self-acceptance will turn into self-love when you are filled with self compassion and love.
Consequently, the willingness to forgive yourself is essential in existing peacefully. When you find harmony in yourself, you are able to experience trust and peace regardless of what challenges arise. In addition, it gives you permission to be whomever you choose. And it gives you the freedom to self-determination. Everything that you have done is over, regardless of your opinion about it. Leave the past where it belongs and reorient yourself to the present with lessons learned. Every day is a new day providing hope, opportunity and growth. Look to the challenges as moments of character development rather than stress and strain. Learn to embrace the challenge as a way to discover your greater self. Receive the lesson from it and be in harmony with yourself and everyone that you encounter. The more peaceful you are with that idea, and the more willing you are to be gentle with yourself, the more you will find forgiveness as your way of life. Learning to forgive yourself, be compassionate and self-loving, the greater your purpose and meaning in life.
